Dire need of awareness??

I happened to read a very interesting article
In continuation with the above article, Famous columnist, Iain Murray in National Review commented that "The prize should have been shared with well known peace campaigner Osama bin Laden". And the same journal decided to title its anti- environmental blog as 'Planet Gore'. Above lines are few intro's so as not to leave the readers in a maze. I am entitled to thank Mr Gore for being involved in a controversial subject and there by indirectly inspiring me to read about him and his works (Greenpeace, Global Warming, Climate change etc).

This post is gonna be totally different from the rest of mine :) I am going to place the facts and then I may or may not conclude what am trying 2 convey! In short understanding whichever way is your choice...

Layman Facts:
  • Recent poll by BBC says "Only 47% in India believed that climate change was a human induced problem, whereas in U.S, China the awareness rating is higher".
  • USA despite of being the world's biggest per capita emitter refuses to ratify the Kyoto Protocol.
  • China being the second biggest emitter in the world has started taking measures to increase their renewable energy upto 15% by 2020.
  • Even if the all the countries take steps towards the right path the warming would be 1.7 to 1.9 degrees Celsius average. Experts has set 2 degree Celsius as absolute max after which we have every possibility to go from a serious impact on climate change to catastrophic impact on climate change.
Technical Facts:
  • Carbon dioxide (CO2) is the gas most significantly enhancing the greenhouse effect. Plant respiration and decomposition of organic material release more than 10 times the CO2 than released by human activities, but these releases have generally been in balance during the centuries leading up to the industrial revolution. Since the industrial revolution amounts have increased by 30%.
  • Greenhouse gases such as CO2 and methane are increasing, so too is aerosol in the atmosphere, from human made sulphur emission. These small particles reflect back some of the sunlight and hence act to slow down the cooling. However where carbon dioxide can remain in the atmosphere for 100 years, sulphate aerosols only last a few days and can be easily removed by rain (acid rain). Therefore they only temporarily mask the full effect of CO2.
What can we do to slow down this warming?
As copied from the link above...

By sharing technologies, experience and resources we can hopefully lower the greenhouse gas emissions and reduce the threat of global climate change. Choose clean energy options where available, such as wind, solar and wave power, these do not emit greenhouse gases and are renewable. Individually, we can recycle material, insulate our homes, take public transport and think about energy efficiency in the home.

A balance is needed between the needs of the living and our obligations to future generations.

Enna solla varanu thaney kekreenga! :D
We hold a very huge & answerable responsibility in not spoiling the present environment and providing better environment for the future along with the fact -Economic growth of our country is also essential.

P.S: Any post related to green peace, global warming, climate change or anyway related to this topic kindly let me know through gmail. I would be very glad to link up here in my blog as suggested by couple of my friends. This is just a step towards 'not being naive', so as to falsify BBC report which said majority of India is unaware of global warming & its consequences!

Who is answerable????

There is a well reputed university called SRM in a place called Potheri which is located 35kms (approximately) away from the city. Click to see the map

To reach the institution few people generally take Bus or Train and few others use their own transport. But majority of the people find the Train journey to be convenient. In between Guindy and Potheri there are at least not less than 5 colleges. So not just the people of SRM take train but also others. So mostly the morning trains are filled with majority of these college goers/staffs. In between Potheri and Airport, Meenambakkam there are around 8 stations. For the past 3weeks, people who want tickets to these eight stations are denied of tickets and are forced to take ticket till Airport for no use. From Potheri towards Meenambakkam, Guduvancherry, Urappakkam, Vandalur, Perungalathur, Tambaram Sanatorium, Tambaram, Chromepet, Pallavaram are the eight stations. Similarly from Perungalathur till Chengalpat there are no tickets. In between there are around four stations. So if the passenger’s destination is going to be any of these 4 stations again that person is forced to take ticket till Chengalpat. May be not finding seat is tolerable but not getting tickets is something which can not be accepted/tolerated. Mismanagement occurs in any organization, but when it deals with the public and public's money, is it not the responsibility of the Railway departments to plan for enough to tickets. At least this should not prolong more than 2 to 3 days.

If a person has to travel up & down, 5days in a week, then his expense would be Rs 70, which actually would be Rs 40. So weekly he/she is again forced to waste Rs 30. Logically speaking, now it’s been 3weeks so every passenger has to get back 30*3= Rs 90.

China is celebrating their hike in the total profit in Railways and Our Railways department is keen only on boasting their wise plan, having no concern about the service they provide : ) Well, now I wont encourage any kind of discouraging comments, am looking forward for any valid, useful suggestions as what can be done : ) Of course take any other means of transport is another idea. But only convenient means are always preferred.

Stones that I threw:

1) Rendu naalu without’la vanthen because vaitherichala irunthuchu for wasting money helplessly :P

2) Filed a complaint in Railways department which I believe is being used for packing snacks! :D

3) Hunting about RTI

Going abroad???!!!!!?!?!?!

Couple of things were confusing or rather bugging for the past few days. Amidst which I was happy to see two awesome templates given by Sanjayan and Ranjhith. : ) Thanks a lot. Oru paarattu vizha vekkalamnu yerpadu aitu iruku ;) Hehehe.. Manamarntha Nanrigal! :) Will put those in few days since this was replaced only few days ago. So wait to see the nice template friends.
Matter'ku varen ;)

Disclaimer: This post might not be interesting to some and even bugging for few of my friends :)

It was astounding to see many people leaving abroad for jobs these days.Till the age of 21 or 22 we are busy with our studies. Finishing the high school, getting admission in a good college to get a degree. And our parents are busy earning to spend for these expenses along with the day to day life expenditures. Somewhere after the age of 23 people get opportunities to go abroad and make a decent earning. Am entitled to do a clarification at this point. Am not talking about foreign visits in which case you stay there for some time and get back to your home land. Am talking about staying there for a very long duration and about settling there. Foreign opportunities will give you international exposure, experience in competitive world, stabilizes one's financial status. True, agreed. But all these at what cost?

* In many homes, this might be the time where the parents might have quit the career under the name Voluntary retirement or retirement. They might want to spend more time with their children or grand children. One has to miss this good time being with the family together.
* If the person has kids then the kids are missing the grand parents love & affection, the bed time stories and so on.
* Festivals like Pongal,Diwali,Christmas are being missed.
* Missing friends and relatives.
* We as sons and daughters should give a supporting hand to parents when they are in need of. No parents would even let us know that they want us to be with them. One reason- Pride takes control ;) and the second - They after all wants us to be happy. But its we the kids who should give moral and financial support when really needed without being asked or hinted for.

Early days people came from village to towns and cities for job opportunities since they had no opportunities in villages. But now India is not like that. It is just that we are aspiring for more in all aspects. As far as money is concerned, 'contentness' is a word which can never be used. First, one might want to stay abroad for a year or more to buy a car for your home in India and then another couple of years to built a house and many more years and many more commitments. All these small things which would make a happy home might appear negligible in comparison with the money, luxury and experience we earn abroad. But in the long run what do we earn in life apart from money? In the process of earning we miss many nice and pleasant things. I DON'T MEAN one should restrict going abroad but rather limit the time spending away from home, friends and relatives. A person settling in U.S or U.K, is it not like plucking a plant from its field rooting it in a different Island. Is life, all about spending 20 years of mechanical life at home land and then flying away from home and spending the rest of your life miles away???

1. Am not talking about going abroad but staying there forever
2. Am not talking just about home but also many other pleasant things being in your home land.
3. Finally, staying for few days or settling forever is one's own wish ;)

Saddam executed! Is this justice???

Terrorists are people who are to be alienated or punished?
Am not justifying their actions rather trying to see the other side of the coin
Terrorists are after all working for a social cause unlike us the people and the politicians. They don’t demand for lakhs and crores to make a sophisticated living. Instead they are sacrificing their lives for their people to make the people live. Whereas politicians like Mr Bush ,Mr Blair are being paid to invade a country’s privacy and these politicians are doing things to make their living. Are they working for a common cause like the Terrorists.
Why are terrorists created?
When your voice and desires to be fulfilled happen to reach deaf ears, you naturally try to take a powerful weapon to make things done. At times this weapon happens to be violence/terrorism.
When Bush and Saddam are like two kings to each of their countries, who gave the power to Bush to invade other country. Well, he did suspect that death causing weapons are being made and he found nothing of that sort. Is it not time for him to feel guilty for this first of all? Is it not other countries responsibility to warn U.S not to enforce power on Iran this way? Is it not the responsibility of everyone living in this world to raise voice for such an injustice?
Death Penalty for Saddam:
Punishment for even the most heinous crimes should have the intent to reform the convict. The death penalty helps neither the accused not society. It only creates hatred and more rivalry.
Whatever be the case, Finally a great man is dead.
May it be Veerappan or Saddam or Osama, they have some notion. And that is not self centered like the others in the world. If we say Mahatma, Nehru or any other freedom fighter is great. Even these people are great and to be respected in some other way. Everyone falls under one category “Fighting for common cause”, “Sacrificing their lives for others well being”. Terrorists are not after all fools to alienate themselves and make the toughest living.
Ask a poor or a rich What his ultimate aim in life is One’s might be to earn money, fame or to get his/her true love. But it all leads to HAPPINESS . One after all wants to be happy. And so does the terrorists feel.
Happiness and fulfillment will come to you not when you are making yourself the centre of your universe but when you forget yourself and look outside.
Sacrifice something for someone and you will know what real happiness is. Initially you might feel aloof from the world or even a loser but in the long run you will feel proud of yourself : )
Disclaimer: Am not saying all that Saddam did was right.. Rather the way he or this issue was treated is bad. Him killing many people is a differnet issue 2 b dealt with. Am just talking about a ruler being treated like this is unfair.

CM Seat'u yarukku????

Hi,
Logging after a Long time. Nothing much. Had internals and Sem lab exams. The real one is on 22nd of this month. Hope 2 write a long post after the exams are over.. Is it that tough to balance many relationships (college or school friendship, family frendship, colleagues, relatives, other friends...) at a time???
I was abt to write on this..What do u think it is quiet tough??? Yes or no??

Pakka thamizhan's latest post was too good. Its abt Pocket money.

GP's page has a wonderful poem.

I happened to see 1 interesting link abt election & its results...Have a look...

Have a nice day,

Tamil Nadu has given its verdict and it's exit time for Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

The battle for power in the state seems to have turned decisively in favour of the DMK-led alliance in the last lap with M Karunanidhi's coalition headed to record a thumping win with two-thirds majority in the 234-member House.

Interestingly, it was anybody's game in Tamil Nadu till the last hours and the battle between the alliances of the two major Dravidian parties had gone down to the wire.

In terms of vote share, the DMK-led alliance showed a decisive edge with as many as 45 per cent vote share while AIADMK's vote share is projected to come down to 35 per cent.

M.Karunanidhi also emerged the No. 1 choice for chief ministership(41%)

For a surprise to all Cine star Vijaykanth has got 10%support for next C.M post. Its really an unexpected thing.

Seats Estimate
DMK+ 157-167
AIADMK+ 64-74
DMDK- 2-6

After a neck-to-neck battle with the AIADMK, the veteran Dravidian leader seems to have mustered enough clout during the poll campaign which put him head and shoulder above his closest rival and outgoing Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in the leadership survey.

AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa came second with 35 per cent votes while

Votes Projected:

DMK+ 45 %
AIADMK+ 35 %
DMDK 10 %
Others 10%

Popular Choice for Chief Minister

M. Karunanidhi 41%
J. Jayalalithaa 35%
Vijaykant 10%
MK Stalin 1%

Should the present Jayalalithaa government be given
another chance?
No 54%
Yes 39%
The rest of the voters had no opinion.

The analysis says that DMK+Cong has done fairly well in southern districts normally considered to be the roots of AIADMK.

Also that PMK has not done that well in the northern districts as expected. This gives a answer to the question "HOW MANY SEATS CAPTAIN COULD HAVE WON?"

This being the first election for captain political experts say that he has performed fairly good.

Also as far as Tamil Nadu is concerned the people have voted alternatively either the DMK or AIADMK to power these many years. Except the Years when the great MGR was in power. He(rather ADMK) won 3 election consequetively.(1977 to 1987).

A smile on someone's face!

Days are too busy for us to realise our friends birthday, dad mom wedding day etc. We hardly find time to laugh or smile. At this point I just felt why dont we try to put a smile on some one's face. And I have decided to count the number of faces where I can find a smile because of me. Does'nt mean I should play a joker's role or give some things or money. By giving a warm smile you can expect a smile on other person or by greeting them (Have a good day, good morning etc). Why don't we all try and see who is the winner ;) You can take my word..'I wont cheat'...Sounds a nice idea.. Hehehe I hope so.
BTW, be careful and dont end up in giving some wrong signals by giving dirty smile...Hahaha. I thought I would read some biography or autobiography.. Give me some suggestions if u have any. God sake, pls,it should not be Gandhi, Nehru etc..Some kind of recent ones. I was in search of Osama's but I could not find it. Thts all for this week. Take care!

PS: 1) Photo from the net.
2) Honestly,I smiled looking at this lady giving a very cute smile. :)
3) Do let me know if u smiled too..Becoz I have to increment my count... Hahaha

India- International Garbage???

Clemenceau found its way to India. For those who are not aware what Clemenceau is- It is a warship (France). Indian officials have agreed to load the wastes into our country. Inspite of the agreement, that more than 50% of the harmful elements should be already cleaned, Clemenceau seems to come to India in its same old form. When such actions has its effects even after several decades, I guess it should be cleared to everyone as what is happening. Many of us are unaware as what is really going on in this issue. Not only this, in the month of July when Nuclear Treaty was signed with U.S was not brought to the common citizens notice. These issues remain a black triangle for everyone.
Even in setting up ITER @ France, whole lot of share was burdened on India. Am wondering as who has the effective role in talking about this or raising a question? Is'nt it a common concern to bring it to citizens notice?? Pls do let me know if we can do anything in these issues.
By the way, almost all the jujubee (Small) culturals are over in the city. Its now time for the King. ;) Yeah, I mean the IIT- Saarang. Visit http://saarang.org/. Those who have already missed the lovely opportunity to see our culturals, try to visit IIT-Saarang. No matter whether we are participating or not ;) there is nothing wrong in being an active viewer. For anything, they need spectators as well. :))
Sulekha has also a major role in this culturals. There is a blogging competition by Sulekha also.
Pls do visit the following websites to know more:

Spending enough time with our family???

Its- culturals week in almost all the colleges, MOP, VIT, SRM, UOM. Any one bored in daily routine life or who wants to recollect your college days, give a visit to one of those colleges. By the way are we spending (enough) time at home? I am proceeding further assuming that the majority of the answer is 'No'. Actually I don't mind even if the answer is going to be Yes ;) I guess neither a working professional nor a student is spending enough time at home. A person who is working is busy in making business/completing his projects and a student is more interested in exploring, knowing about the outside world. The only difference is the latter one is not a compulsory task and the first one is a compulsory task. I realised this only when we had a power failure in the recent past.

Few years ago when this power failure was very frequent in our place, my siblings and me had a very nice time. We used to play Anthakshari, shadow games and anna used to tell so many stories like Thenali, Beerbal, Vikadakavi and a story where the prince should climb 7 mountains to reach the princess (Sorry I don't remember the Title). But these days even if there is a power failure we have inverters/generators. Apart from those all of us are busy doing research in our mobile phones, Ipods, Mp3 players, Discman etc. Though these electronic gadgets have made our life simpler and colorful. We should agree that, it is also taking much of our time. Oh, how can I forget the free talk time, free roaming, free messaging services, if you buy one sim you can take another for free etc proposed by the mobile service providers to attract more people.

Why is that we don't have enough time
  • To dine together
  • To watch a nice movie
  • To have family get-togethers
  • To share our daily happenings
  • To talk about some general issues (From Suhasini's to Bin Laden's)

Is that we REALLY don't have time or is that we never gave a thought for it? Spare a minute to answer this, which will let us know if we were missing a greater part of joy in our life.

Have a nice day,

Ponnarasi Kothandaraman.

Credit card holders - Beware!

Hai,
It was a very pleasant climate, when I wokeup! The day went on well till my dad got his Citibank bill through post. Last month we were supposed to pay 15000 and dad did pay, but the bill says recieved Rs 1500 with thanks! In a hurry I called to the citibank call center and enquired about the mistyped amount. The citibank employee at the other end answered very cooly, "No Mam, You have paid only 1500". Thank god the bill payment was done in cheque and hence dad had the passbook with proper entries. After saying that we have proof of paying the whole lot of amount well ahead of the last date, the lady said "Send the xerox copy of the passbook by fax". Irony of the story is this process would obvioulsy take another 15days, by the time next month bill would come with over due charges, late fee etc etc. Its becoming a tendency for big organisations like this to take advantage of others carelessness. So I learnt that we should always have a watchful eye in these issues like card bills, supermarket bills, postpaid phone connections etc. Climax of the story?? Yeah, even am eagerly waiting for the response that would be after they receive passbook xerox copy.

Have a gr8 day,

Greatest glory in living is not in, never falling, but in rising every time after falling!

Greatest glory in living is not in never falling, but in rising every time after falling

I just read the article about Former President Saddam's trial in newspaper. Capturing another President and ill-treating and humiliating like this is something really unacceptable and unbearable. It raises a question, When such a condition prevails for a President what would be for other common citizens. Whatever crime President would have committed, he is the head of that country and the necessary protocol should be given. Had this been the condition then almost all heads of each country must be punished badly. Authorities of FEMA, in spite of knowing about the hurricane well ahead, refused to do any precautionary measures. But they were quiet sure and wicked to save their own skins. Who will punish these people? In fact a recent press release said, President also visited the hurricane, affected areas very leisurely, that too visited only safer places. So that includes President of America as well under the list. The mysterious reaction (keeping mum in Saddam's issue) of other countries, is still more surprising. Anywaz present concern is not whether he is guilty or not but the treatment given to him is unfair. After all he is a human too, when people are ready to forgive the criminals involved in the death of Rajiv Gandhi, why not him? Greatest glory in living is not in never falling but in rising every time after falling. Hope President Saddam has a rise too...

PS: Last sentence gives way to another interesting blog, "Forgiving Criminals-Practically acceptable or not?" ;)

Have a gr8 day,
Ponnarasi.K
