Kids or Young adults????

Infinite Talent shows, opportunities as child artists, unlimited exposures in TV and to the public, enormous fame and money. Kids these days have so many talents and proper opportunity along with right place to stage those talents as well. They get to move along with every one easily and come out of being shy bird easily along which the child being innocent also gets reduced. The more a kid is exposed to the outside world the more the kid is entitled to lose its innocence. Are kids matured enough to handle these?

Apart from these talent shows, kids are also going crazy about acting or modeling at a very young age. I was greatly astounded when a child artist in one of the interviews told "Enku neriya uncles kooda act panni, world famous aagnum'nu aasai". Mazhalai kooda maarala! :( I recently heard from a authentic source that a kid is being paid Rs 15K to 20K for a still in the modeling field. And kids who act as child artists in movies are even paid in lakhs. Finally they find no time for self improvement in the long run. They dont have time to their daily home works, most of them do not perform well in their academics. This not only disturbs the kids education but also affects the kids psychologically. According to a research Kids who are made to act in death scenes, who are made to cry before a dead body, casting like the kids close relatives are dead and the kids mourning for that, kids acting like mentally retarded undergo psychological problems. In order to avoid these problems other countries have a rule as to have a child psychiatrist in the shooting spot and kids are allowed to act only in the vacation. Here in India, there is a widespread news that parents are shifting from their own places to places like Mumbai, Kodambakkam where the opportunities for acting is more.

Kids tend to learn bad things from these exposures easily. Starting from using words that are not supposed to be heard from a kids mouth, using vengeance statements as told by the villains & villis in soaps & movies. Kids are no longer behaving like kids! Practically its hard to keep away from these exposures unless and until everyone in the society has concern about the future generation. Preaching & practice Starts from home. Parents avoiding fighting in front of the kids and avoiding playing blame games, avoiding watching violence movies/soaps would contribute to saving the vulnerable kids from bad things. No where i convey the meaning to grow kids naive. Exposure to the right thing at the right age is more important in young ones life!

Well then that is quite an interesting thing you brought up. Firstly, talk about casting in roles that mean psychological disorders, it ain't gonna matter much to the parents. It is the instant fame and money that matters to people these days and so kids run the rat race early in their life !
And talk about learning things, I cannot agree more on what you said. What they see in visual is assimilated much faster than what they hear. So anything that pertains to good or bad is going to be defined by the circle and the area where they grow up.

Competitive world this is'nt it? People go to any measure to make their kids successful - not just in academics but also anything and everything that deserves a shot at :-)

Have a good evening.

i had a visit to my granny and we wer talking stuff on whats she is doin ... she has a farm setup old style house ... she was tellin m abt the new water system she had planned up lookin at it i was able to give some suggestions that saved her some costs .... and she was like kids these days are outa the league .... i'd say young adult is good only thing is th parns need to b smart enuf to b the right guide and not let the kid watch some supid tamil movie n sing songs ....

Congrats PK on your 51st post. Wishes to continue ... Agree that media has got a strong influence on kids. But whether kids act or not, seeing movies, songs and ads - that itself influences a lot. I have not heard any celeberity feeling bad that he/she took the wrong career from child hood (Acting from young age). Infact many have succeeded. I also feel that its parents duty to find the talent in a child and show them the right direction. After all studying is not the only thing that grows your career or gives you lesson. Most of kids are grown in such a way that they just by-heart the notes and not understand them. I mean they dont really apply what they read.

I dont agree that parents make their kids act just for money (reply to one of the comment). May be few are like that, but in most cases its the talent of the kids that makes the parents feel that he/she will defintely shine in that area. Ofcourse we need to take care of telling them the right and wrong things. Media is not the only place where kids learn the wrong things even in school, colleges they do happen to see and learn. Finally this world is filled with good n bad. Its up to parents to higlight it to their kids. Its really a good post and good topic to debate about.

Exploitation of innocence happens only when proper guidance is not there for the child.

//Exposure to the right thing at the right age is more important in young ones life!//

This is always balanced with other question- Look at the world out there growing fast.

Its time for sex education at schools, how come you stop the exposure?

Any plans to start play school or creche? I thought you are joining a software company :P

Congrats on this milestone :) I am watching the program regularly and amazed to see these kids having extraordinary talents. The selection of songs now are decent to hear also. But during primary rounds, it was odd to hear kids singing "loosu penne" etc. Singing at home is different. But when singing in public the kids should be guided properly. It depends on the parents to mould their talents ! Nice post ! :)

and this was a very good thought..

there is no "child labour" concept in this regard or what??

Harish said...

It depends on the upbringing of the kids as well.
Look at the ex of someone as kamalHassan and Sridevi who in turn made a mark for themselves.
In hollywood one ex is of Home alone star Macaulay Culkin who had to face custody battle, drugs and fame at a young age.
Its a hard task to manage fame and adulation at a young age...U can fall in bad company and lose sight...but then...thats what life is all about.

Nice topic this one :-)

its better to tell them tat this bad n ask them to stay away from them ... first parents have to change hte way they grow up their kids coz now days kids have net to explore at the place they dnt even has to move from their place ... our parents used to hide things abt sex from us but now days its not possible .... its better we tell them wat it is rather than allowing their curiosity to grow n let them learn n a wrong way rite ??

moreover parents have to be ffriends unless the children get the feeling tat they can share all stuff n ask themwat ever they think we wil have them in control til they are matured enough to know tats this s good n bad ... so lots of factors to be considered :) ...

The % of kids into acting/modeling is very meagre & isn't bad. But accompanying a psychiatrist & a parent is very necessary.

There is a huge % of kids who watch movies/tv shows meant for adults. Yes, the influence will be greater. They pick up things fast from what ever sources, they come across.

i think, parents shud be educated about whats good & bad for child's entertainment. Kids of today come with perfumes/lipsticks all becos of their parents.

In the end of the day its boils down to one word: Evolution. :)

It is all about getting your priorities right! there is no way u can control what your kid gets exposed to, esp given the media and the increasingly easier access v have to all "bad" (as you put it) stuff. Before we teach or try to teach our kids about priorities, it is better to get a clear idea for ourselves.

It is quite interesting that you brought this topic up. I have noticed that kids want to recieve only makeup kits as gifts. And this was 5 years ago. I was a little surprised when I heard them say that. So the "society" must have become more competitive to urge kids to become adults faster!

When you get a chance, look up Jonbenet Ramsey. Such a sweet life, snuffed out so early and there is a possibility that famedom also had something to do with it!

Hmm quite interesting comments. I have been thinking about this for a while as I am really surprise to see kids perform very well in movies than adults. Also kids doing their fifth grade has got more exposure, knows more stuffs which I came to know only when I was doing my tenth.
This exposure, knowledge makes the kid either rotten or brilliant. This depends upon the parents. Parents have the complete responsibility to teach their children the right and the wrong.
They should allow thier children to get exposed to outside world but they also should tk care that it doesnt affect their studies or their behavior. Also its their responsibility to make their children act or do things that wont affect them psychologically. They shouldn't make their money by selling their child's innocence.
Children should be exposed to outside world only to the right things. Stealing child's innocence is one of the unpardonable crime.

Before the count reaches 100 let me make my entry for this post:-)

Modelling/Acting is again an interest or a passion for few people. There is nothing wrong about it. My concern is when they are young adults, they are more vulnerable. As u said, exposure to right things at right time makes more sense. Ppl might take advantage of their innocence. Its highly likely that kids can't differentiate btw the good n bad.

I would call this world 'A Dark World'. To make things happen, ppl do anything(Not every one though).

As long as no one looses anything and shine on this field it's healthy.

Way to go Pons! Keep Posting!!!

I know many kids who balance both.I have my own friend(when he was kid)managed both academics and modeling. As you told its right that the environment in home and other places, also make the kids learn some unwanted stuff. These film and modeling can give exposure but ultimate effect is worse which can be paid more attention.

ps:the title is nice :)

Yes, the topics which take to blog seems to be a bit sensitive and quite reasonable. Yes i do agree that the amount of fame, money etc whatever they get at this age may definitely deviate the kids from their mandatory track of studies..

Here we can't be so relaxed saying that their parents will take care ! Its their parents who insist their kids to do so. I dont comment all parents but the people who fall in this category! They have to take a preventive measure!

Kudos!!
